Having graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a Distinction for Drawing and Painting, Julia continues to develop her artistic practice, holding exhibitions internationally.
She has always explored with an array of media, ranging from oil on canvas to painting on silk, and more recently creating with found objects, in particular mobile sculptures using wood and copper. Drawing on the transcendental qualities of colour and geometry, influences include her childhood in Africa, travels in Egypt and the Middle East, and her ongoing fascination with alternative healing modalities.
Julia paints intuitively, often following a niggling thought of poetic verse, though underlying it all is a quest to reach something of the stillness beneath the waves of energy and emotion that often spark the initial inspiration.
